Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Fort Worth fire officials say a fire over the weekend at Atwood McDonald Elementary School was intentionally set. Investigators arrested 61-year old Joseph Terry Dorsey on burglary and arson charges.
Crews arrived at the school around 10:30 Saturday night to find an active fire. The fire was contained, but not before causing significant smoke damage.
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to JPS hospital.
School is in session today with modified pick-up and drop off locations.

Good Evening Atwood McDonald Family,
You may be aware that unfortunately there was a fire on our campus Saturday night. Despite this event, we are dedicated to continually providing high quality instructional opportunities. We will continue to work together and persevere like our mighty Panther family! We are open for school tomorrow morning Monday, October 4, 2021 at 7:30am. The Environmental Team and the Building and Maintenance department has been working throughout the day to ensure that we have a safe, secure and conducive learning environment. To maintain safety for all and minimize traffic in the building, we are not permitting parents inside.
Please be mindful of the following changes to arrival and dismissal.
Arrival: Students and teachers will utilize the rear portion of the building. All students will enter through Gary Ln. PreK scholars will use their same entrance and arrival procedures. Scholars in grades K-5 will be dropped off and enter through the gym doors. Teachers and staff will be there to direct all students and walk them to breakfast in the cafeteria and then to their classrooms.
Dismissal: During dismissal, the carline will run through the Gym parking lot on Gary Ln. All students will be housed in the gym. As you enter the parking lot on Gary Ln, your child’s name will be called and will be brought to your car. All daycare vans and buses will be serviced in the front of the building. Scholars will be escorted to vans and buses.Parents, we are excited to welcome students tomorrow morning. Thank you for all of your well wishes and support during this time.
