DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texans are reacting to a U.S. Supreme court ruling that lifts the Biden administration’s moratorium on evictions.

The Supreme Court said that the CDC doesn’t have the authority to issue the eviction moratorium, essentially ending the protection for Americans who can’t afford to pay their rent. The Dallas Fort Worth Tenants Union is calling for action.

“We are demanding that Congress act immediately, even though it’s a band-aid solution,” DFW Tenants Union, Treasurer, Alex Thibeaux said.

Thibeaux fears that lifting the mortarium will leave thousands of Texans without a place to live in the midst of a local rise in COVID cases and hospitalization. The group planned to demonstrate against the Supreme Court ruling on Friday afternoon in Downtown Dallas.

According to early August data from the U.S. Census bureau, more than 3 million people said faced eviction in the next two months.
