DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police have released the dash cam and body cam footage of the arrest of Angela West, wife of Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Lt. Col. Allen West.
Following his wife’s DWI arrest on Friday in Dallas, West called the actions of the department “wrongful” and “corrupt.”
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia defended his department on Monday.
“When we are wrong, we are wrong, and we will hold ourselves accountable,” said Chief Garcia. “But no Police Chief can sit idly by while his Officers get falsely vilified.”
Allen West claimed that his wife was stopped for failure to signal. But, Chief Garcia said that’s not the whole story.
“[The Officer] also observed the Mercedes enter on to the shoulder and travel in between the shoulder and the right lane,” said Chief Carcia. “Straddling the right shoulder, the Mercedes continued to travel westbound on west Northwest Highway while getting further and further on to the shoulder.”
Angela West is charged with DWI with a child because her grandson was in the vehicle with her.
According to DPD, the breathalyzer test performed on West was inconclusive.
“The test was administered correctly by the officer; however, Mrs. West did not blow properly, thereby making the test results inconclusive,” read a statement from DPD.
Police are awaiting blood test results.
