DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A local non-profit group is reaching out to Afghan refugees who arrive in North Texas as the United States evacuates American Embassy workers and eligible Afghans from Afghanistan.
The Group DFW Afghan Unity is standing by to help refugees.
“We were informed that there are some already arrived to the DFW area,” said the group’s President, Farhad Nayeb. “We are trying to find out where they are located and how we can help.”
Nayeb said one of the DFW members has gone to El Paso to greet refugees as they land.
“They’re at the air base in El Paso and we are going to find out what’s going on,” said Nayeb. “If they want to stay there or if they want to come to Dallas.
Once in Dallas, volunteers will assist the refugees get on their feet.
“We will help them with medical need if they need help finding doctors,” said Nayeb. “Some of them need help with schools, and furniture, and goods, and things like that.”
It’s not clear exactly how many Afghan refugees are headed for DFW. The organization is asking anyone in need of help to reach out through its website.
