U.S. Transportation Secretary Visits DFW Airport, DART

DFW AIRPORT (WBAP/KLIF) – U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg joined local members of Congress for a tour of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport on Tuesday, before visiting a DART construction site.

The trip came a day after the U.S. Senate passed a $1 trillion bi-partisan infrastructure bill that would invest $25 billion in U.S. airports to address repair and maintenance backlogs, reduce congestion and emissions near ports and airports, and drive electrification and other low-carbon technologies. The legislation also provides money for transit, roads and bridges, and broadband.

“What we see hear really exemplifies how investing in infrastructure is an investment in jobs, an investment in our future, an investment in our safety,” Secretary Buttigieg said.

DFW Airport is undergoing several infrastructure projects, including the creation of a communications room, and a modular expansion at Terminal C.

As part of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, DFW received $251 million in funding to keep workers employed, construction projects going, and help U.S. airports recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
