FOREST HILL (WBAP/KLIF)- A Forest Hill police officer faces a first degree felony charge for the shooting death of a man.

An arrest warrant states 23-year-old Logan Andrew Barr Jr. is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police say he shot and killed 32-year-old Michael Lee Ross Jr., who’s suspected of killing a woman in June.

Police say the shooting took place June 9th, while Forest Hill officers were responding to a stabbing call at a local gas station.

Police had received a 911 call that a woman, 27-year-old Kieona Hal had been stabbed in the parking lot of the gas station. Hall was later pronounced dead.

Police say when officers arrived at the scene, they found Ross, in a creek just north of the gas station.

Police initially said they shot Ross because he had a knife and turned toward an officer.

A Texas Ranger’s review of body camera footage showed that Ross did have a knife but did not make any verbal threats toward the officers, did not raise the knife in a threatening manner and did not try to run away. Investigators found that Ross “did not pose a reasonable and immediate threat of death or bodily injury” to the officers or others when he was shot and he was standing about 15-20 feet from the officers when he was shot.

The sergeant also shot and killed the service dog that was next to Ross, according to the Texas Rangers.

Police have not released more information about the initial stabbing.
