PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – An explosion Monday afternoon at a home in the 4400 block of Cleveland drive in Plano sent six people to the hospital. Of those injured, one person was in the house at the time of the blast. Five others were from next door and included three children.

A Plano Police dog was brought in to check for residue from an explosive device but nothing was found. The cause of the explosion is unclear and under investigation. A lightning strike was reported by a man nearby but that was not believed to be the cause since there was no fire involved.

Officials say it will take time to determine the exact cause of the blast. Gas was turned off in the immediate area Monday afternoon and representatives from Atmos Energy and Oncor were on site during the initial investigation, which is standard procedure.

Plano Mayor John Muns issued a statement on the explosion and talked about the victims:

“We are keeping them and their families close to our hearts and hoping for a swift and full recovery. Plano Fire-Rescue is working diligently to determine the cause of the blast. We’re asking all of you to keep the victims in your prayers.”
