MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas ISD employee is facing multiple charges of possessing child pornography.
According to the Mesquite Police Department, 63-year-old John Lentz of Mesquite was arrested on Monday. Lentz has been charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, which is a third-degree felony, and three counts of possession of lewd material depicting a child, which is a state jail felony.
“Lentz is an employee of the Dallas Independent School District,” Mesquite Police said in a statement. ” During the investigation, it was also discovered that Lentz works for the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers at his church in Dallas.”
According to DISD, Lentz works at Stephen Foster Elementary School. District officials said Tuesday that they are aware of the arrest.
“Due to personnel policies, we are not able to provide more specific and confidential information, however, the appropriate steps are being followed pending investigation,” the district said in a statement. “Please know that we take this matter very seriously and remain committed to doing everything in our power to keep our students safe.”
The Mesquite Police Department is not aware of any inappropriate direct contact between Lentz and any child at this time, but anyone with information regarding any potential victims or acts is asked to contact authorities.
