Governor Abbott to Host Security Summit at Southern Border

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott will host a Border Security Summit on Thursday evening in Del Rio.

The meeting comes amid a continued surge of crossings at the southern border.

According to the Governor’s office, Governor Abbott’s Border Security Summit will bring together Texas sheriffs, police chiefs, county judges, mayors, and landowners to hear from state officials on the actions that the State of Texas is taking to secure the southern border and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

“This summit will also focus on collaborative strategies between state government, local city and county officials, law enforcement, and landowners to secure our border communities and ensure a safer future for all Texans,” read a statement from the Governor.

Governor Abbott plans to give the keynote address and is expected to be joined by Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, Major General Tracy Norris of the Texas Military Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw.
