DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Association is praising Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia’s recent decision to reduce and rescind discipline of officers by former Chief Renee Hall after her review of the Vice Department.
In January 2020 Hall reprimanded or suspended nearly two dozen vice officers after a 3-year investigation looking into the mishandling of department money used in gambling operations and for not delivering evidence in those cases to the property room.
Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata told reporters on Thursday that Chief Garcia reviewed the investigation under Chief Hall and determined there was no criminal activity on the part of the involved Officers. The Chief also indicated that the vice department’s problems stemmed from outdated policies and procedures, according to Mata.
“What happened to these good Officers so Chief Hall could justify her quick, unjust and unfair decision jeopardized our department’s efforts to fight crime,” said Mata. “She took experienced and decorated Officers off the streets.”
Mata said he believes Dallas now has a Police Chief who cares about the Officers and doing what is right.
