Plane Crash That Killed 10 at Addison Airport Blamed on Pilot

(WBAP/KLIF) — A 2019 plane crash that killed 10 people at Addison airport is ruled pilot error.  The National Transportation Safety Board released their investigation report Tuesday that a loss of engine power was handled improperly.  On June 30th, 2019 a King Air 350 carrying eight passengers and two pilots crashed just 17 seconds after take-off, killing everyone on board.

The aircraft apparently lost power in the left engine when aviation expert and retired airline captain Denny Kelly says the pilots made a costly mistake by engaging the wrong rudder control, which caused the plane to flip on it’s back, lose airspeed, and crash into an Addison Airport hangar.

The pilots not only engaged in the wrong emergency protocol for engine power loss, but also failed to run through safety checklists prior to takeoff. Kelly says pilots are trained to review emergency procedures before take-off.

The crash claimed the lives of eight passengers and two pilots who were headed to St. Petersburg, Florida.
