Burleson Police Arrest Suspect in Burleson Officer Shooting, Linked to Shooting Death of Woman

Burleson, TX (WBAP/KLIF) –

UPDATE 2:00PM 4/14: Burleson Police say suspect Jerry Don Elders is in police custody and was found in Gainesville, Texas.

Original Story: Multiple agencies including the Burleson Police Department are looking for Jerry Don Elders, a 39 year old white man who police say shot a Burleson officer several times during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

Police say Elders was in the car with two others and this occurred along the 1100 block of Southwest Hillside Drive, near the Burleson High School campus.

Burleson Chief Billy Cordell said the officer was ambushed, when he approached the passenger side front door and turned toward the window, Elders shot through the window.

“Elders is considered armed and dangerous, “said Cordell.

The officer is stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. “We are very lucky he’s in stable condition now,” he said.

He said the group then drove off and  abandoned the vehicle and set it on fire along Southeast John Jones Road.

Police believe the group then car jacked a woman outside a home on the 8000 block of County Road 802. “At 8:44 a.m., a woman showed up at the Joshua Police Department suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to Huguley Hospital South in Burleson where she later died,” said Cordell.

Elders was last believed to be in the woman’s stolen silver Toyota Tacoma with Texas license plate DKB-6819.
