GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF News) – Citing issues dealing with a high “no-show rate” during recent COVID-19 vaccination events, the Garland Health Department is temporarily closing its vaccine registration site to work through its current wait list of more than 20,000 people.
In a statement, GHD said workers have attempted to contact some on the wait list several times to no avail.
The department said it will still work to provide vaccines to the public.
“We want to identify and provide vaccines to those who still wish to receive them during our mass vaccination events at Homer B. Johnson Stadium and at the Garland Public Health Clinic,” said GHD.
The department is planning its next mass vaccination event Wednesday, April 7 at Johnson Stadium.
Residents can find updates at GarlandTX.gov/COVIDVaccine and to the city’s Twitter and Facebook pages as they become available.
Registration wait lists are expected to grow after the Texas Department of State Health Services announced in March that any one 16 and older is now eligible to receive the vaccine, although people 80 and older will still be prioritized.
