Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Health officials in Denton County on Wednesday confirmed their first known case of the UK coronavirus variant.
The variant which is about 70% more infectious than the original COVID-19 virus was found in an person with no recent travel history outside of the U.S.
No further information was released, but Denton County Judge Andy Eads stressed the importance of continuing CDC guidelines for social distancing, hand washing and wearing mask, amid a ramp up in vaccinations this week.
Meantime, also on Wednesday Dallas County reported its highest daily death count since the county started tracking in March 2020.
Along with 1,356 new COVID-19 cases reported on Dallas county added 50 coronavirus-related deaths, Tarrant County reported 1,625 new cases and 14 deaths. Collin County reported 670 new cases and ten deaths. Denton County reported 621 new cases.
then confirmed by DSHS, determined this individual’s infection was caused by the B.1.1.7 variant. DCPH continues to track diseases and works with reference laboratories, as well as DSHS, to report any anomalies or variants. (9/_)
