FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office has provided a path for those facing a misdemeanor marijuana charge to have their case dismissed.
It’s part of an effort to de-clog the courts with the overwhelming number of such cases.
In 2019, the Possession of Marijuana, less than two ounces, charge was the top offense in the county with 3,750 cases filed.
Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Sharen Wilson said an individual must provide three clean drug tests in three months to have the charges dropped.
Wilson added that the effort is about more than just clearing up the court.
“One of the goals of the criminal justice system is rehabilitation; sobriety is the beginning of rehabilitation,” she said. “Get sober. Get your case dismissed. Get on with a sober life.”
