BEDFORD (WBAP/KLIF)- The city of Bedford is doing a nation-wide search for it’s next police chief.
City Manager Jimmy Stathatos said the city has hired a recruiting firm to help narrow down the list of candidates and then he will select the best fit for the department. “We are very very excited, we know it’s a desirable job and they are professionals in helping cities and we are ready to get started,” he said.
Stathatos says he’s looking for a leader to be very visible in the community, who is into community policing and will have a positive impact on the department.
“It depends on the process depending on feedback. But I would love to have a chief on board by March, maybe even selected in February,” said Stathatos.
Stathatos said it’s a nation-wide search but those internally are welcome to apply as well. “However I can say that I am confident that our next chief will be from outside our department right now,” he said.
Former Police Chief, Jeff Gibson, announced his retirement October 26, 2020. Gary Johnson is currently serving as the interim police chief.
