DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The VA North Texas Health Care System is expanding its capacity as its COVID-19 unit continues to fill up.
“Due to a steady increase in the number of COVID-19 positive patients seeking care at VA North Texas Health Care System (specifically our main Dallas VA Medical Center), the decision has been made to reopen our COVID-19 Relief Center at the Garland VA Medical Center campus,” the VA said in a statement.
The Garland Center stands ready to accommodate up to 208 non-COVID patients in order to decongest the Dallas campus and provide bed space for those patients requiring acute care in a controlled setting.
According to the system, the COVID-19 unit at the Dallas center is close to 90% occupied.
The COVID-19 Relief Center in Garland was occupied with patients from April to August of this year. It’s unclear how long it will serve overflow purposed this fall.
