McKinney, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – McKinney City Council will hear tonight from an advisory board created to look into what to do with a Confederate statue located on McKinney’s downtown square.

The board has spent the last few months gathering research and hearing from the public to determine the fate of the James Throckmorton statue.

Throckmorton was a brigadier general for the Confederate Army during the Civil War and a former governor of Texas before being removed because of his opposition to reconstruction. He also was a doctor in McKinney where he spent most of his life.

A survey of McKinney residents last month shows that the majority of them are in favor of keeping the statue in place, according to the Dallas Morning News.
