Police say Deadly Weekend in Dallas is Cause for Concern

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is investigating five murders since Friday, including one described to have unique circumstances.

Assistant Dallas Police Chief Avery Moore said during a Zoom call on Monday that a man was shot and killed Friday after a suspect attempted to abduct his wife on Waverly Drive in South Dallas.

“He had some duct tape,” Moore said. “He grabbed her and tried to tape her wrist while simultaneously trying to grab jewelry off her fingers.”

According to Moore, four other people were murdered in Dallas between Friday and Monday.

The department reports 178 murders this year so far, which puts the city on track to surpass the more than 200 murders last year.

“Last year we were able to talk about gangs and robbers being responsible for some of the crime, but this year it’s the area of conflict argument,” said Moore. “So, people know each other.”

Moore urged residents to call 911 anytime they’re concerned about a potentially violent scenario.
