DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — University of North Texas assistant football coach Tate Wallis was arrested by Denton police Thursday and faces two charges of having an improper relationship with a former student and an educator.
The specifics of the allegations against Wallis haven’t been explained but the improprieties are said to have occurred during October and November of 2019 when he was employed as the offensive coordinator for Argyle High School’s football team. The school has not commented on the situation.
Wallis bailed out of jail on $20,000 bond.
UNT has placed Wallis on administrative leave and not allowed to set foot on campus, according to WFAA. The university issued a statement saying they are reviewing facts of the case and will determine their next steps when the review is completed.
A former quarterback at Ennis High School, Wallis led the school as a senior to the 2000 Class 4A state title. He then played for Southern Methodist University and later served as an assistant coach at Baylor under Art Briles for seven seasons.
