Dallas City Council Submits Request to Rename Street After Botham Jean

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF NEWS)- A popular Dallas street might see a name change in the near future.

Nearly two years after 26-year-old Botham Jean was killed by off-duty police officer Amber Guyger, several Dallas city council members submitted a request to change the name of South Lamar Street to Botham Jean Boulevard.

The street, which stretches from I-30 to South Central Express Way, runs in front of Jack Evans Police Headquarters and the apartment complex where Jean was killed.

The request read, “renaming the street in honor of Botham Jean would show the citizens of Dallas that his death was not in vain and show the world that his life mattered,”

Jean was eating ice cream in his apartment when Amber Guyger walked in and shot him in September 2018. Guyger said she believed she was walking into her own apartment and thought jean was an intruder.
