(WBAP/KLIF) — With DFW area schools offering online or in-person education, the reality for many residents boils down to just one choice….in-school instruction.
Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Scribner recently pointed to concerns during the pandemic that an educational crisis was in the works. One grandmother, Sharon Armstrong says the reason is many lack resources to have internet in their homes or parents that can troubleshoot technical problems.
Studies have shown that children from low income families have a 55% drop in educational progression. Education officials are concerned about the impact of remote learning on students.
Although school districts are offering online education, the lack of internet resources to low income families creates a divide. Scribner has asked the school board for additional resources to close that gap.
Most pediatricians recommend kids return to school campuses for a variety of reasons. Armstrong believes canceling in-person schooling has caused her grand kids to suffer.
According to WFAA, opponents of on-campus classes fear the further spread of COVID-19.
