Burgess Says Congress is Working on Another Stimulus

(WBAP/KLIF) — Congress is mulling over details of the next round of relief for those suffering during the coronavirus pandemic.  Many Americans continue to suffer financial fallout from the Coronavirus pandemic shut down.

With benefits running out next week on the federal unemployment supplement, Texas Representative Michael Burgess says Congress is contemplating several stimulus package questions.  Republicans are leaning towards a $100 supplement to unemployment, while Democrats are proposing closer to the original $600.

Businesses and families have relied on the Cares Act stimulus checks and the federal unemployment supplement.   Burgess says there’s pressure from both sides in developing a new stimulus package.  Congress should have legislation forged by the end of next week.

In addition, businesses being open during a pandemic opens the door to a great deal of risk.  One of the most worrisome concerns for business owners is being sued by patrons who claim they caught the virus at their store.

Burgess also indicated that Republican Congressional leaders are looking at protecting businesses from liability.  According to the congressman, lawmakers may provide temporary liability protection during the pandemic.
