Texas Religious Schools Are Not Restricted By Regulated Re-Openings

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has informed the state’s religious schools that local public health orders stopping private schools from fully re-opening don’t apply to them. Dallas County’s public health director issued an order Thursday restricting in-person classes until September 8 for all private, public, and charter schools in the county. Paxton says such orders to religious schools are unconstitutional under both the U.S. and Texas Constitutions, and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The superintendent of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas schools says he is aware of both the Dallas County order and the Attorney General’s letter, and is in the process of reviewing the Diocese’s options.
