Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A coalition of advocacy groups is calling on the Dallas school district to disband its police force. The five groups say many black students, and those with disabilities, feel less safe with police stationed at their schools because of their previous experiences. The coalition also questions what it says are the millions of dollars DISD has dedicated to its police force, while providing inadequate funding for social workers, school counselors, and mental health professionals. Figures show the Dallas district spends $17 million a year on its police department.
