DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- A GoFundMe page supporting a Dallas salon owner reaches at half a million dollars.
The fundraising page supporting Salon A La Mode owner Shelley Luther is at over $500,000. Luther was sentenced to 7 days in jail and ordered to pay a $7,000 fine for opening up her salon amid state Coronavirus restrictions. Luther said she just wanted to feed her kids and help her stylists get back to work.
Texas conservative leaders are rallying behind Luther.
Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are among others calling for her release, dalling the sentence an abuse or power and stating jailing a mother trying to support her family wasn’t necessary.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick offered to pay her fine or even serve out her sentence under house arrest.
The organizer has currently disabled new donations to the fundraiser. 100% of the money raised will go to Luther.
7 days in jail, no bail and a $7K fine is outrageous. No surprise Texans are responding. I’m covering the $7K fine she had to pay and I volunteer to be placed under House Arrest so she can go to work and feed her kids. #txlege #TexansHelpingTexans https://t.co/gdtMLAHFV5

Shelley Luther should immediately be released from jail. Locking her up is a misguided abuse of power, especially considering Dallas County released real criminals to “protect them from COVID-19.”
Release her now so she can return to her family. pic.twitter.com/67KrhQBEyf
