WBAP/KLIF – An 18 year old man shot in the abdomen during a basketball game January 11th at South Oak Cliff High School has died of his injuries. 18 year old Marc Strickland is now identified as the shooting victim.
Charges of aggravated murder filed against a 15 year old suspect who turned himself in to police will be upgraded to murder charges.
The shooting happened during a ball game winding up a day of celebrations marking the renovation of South Oak Cliff High School. A DISD officer was grazed by a bullet as game attendees ran in fear.
Security at DISD sporting events are changed since the shooting. All bags, backpacks and handbags must be clear and see through if to enter a DISD sports game. Metal wands will scan attendees.
DISD officials say they will also work to decentralize game locations; playing at either participating team’s gyms instead of what they call a neutral location.
