(WBAP/KLIF) — Mesquite, TX — Mesquite police chief Charles Cato was honored with the Patriot award, given to those who foster trust with the community. “One Community” President Nick Galanos presented Cato with the Patriot award at last night’s Mesquite city council meeting. According to Cato, working with the youth in the community aids his department in the field.
The patriot award is given to law enforcement officers who engage in building trust within the neighborhoods they serve. Cato says the award is validation for his hard-working officers are making a difference. Galanos says the Mesquite police chief has been instrumental in the creation of the department’s summer camp program, high school mentorship program, and explorer program.
Chief Cato is also a member of the Rotary Club of Mesquite where he coordinates the awards program that recognizes MISD Seniors for leadership, good citizenship and academic achievement. He also mentors three members of the John Horn High School football team and participates in Big Brothers, Big Sisters by supporting a student at Florence Black Elementary.
