Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) The battle between the City of Fort Worth and its former police chief Joel Fitzgerald continues.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, lawyers for the city have asked a court for a protective order that would keep some records secret “if it is divulged in a fired police chief’s whistleblower lawsuit.”
Fitzgerald maintains that he was fired in May, out of retaliation for conducting an investigation of the city’s IT Department.
Fitgerald’s attorney is concerned that the city could get to decide what’s confidential. Atty Stephen Kennedy said, “once you get the power to decide what’s confidential, everything becomes confidential.”
According to the publication, “City officials say the goal is to protect information related to the personal matters of the city’s officers, employees or citizens, or as it relates to security and network vulnerability.”
