Lufkin (WBAP/KLIF) – A video that went viral on social media within the last week showed a person in what turned out to be a Lufkin Walmart opening a carton of Blue Bell ice cream, licking it, then putting it back in the store freezer. Lufkin Police say she turned out to be a teenaged girl from San Antonio whose boyfriend lives in Lufkin. Because she’s underage she will not be publicly identified, and for the same reason Lufkin Police are turning the case over to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Tampering with consumer products is a felony offense in Texas, but the law specifies that tampering means altering or adding something to a product. It doesn’t specifically say anything about tasting or eating part of it, then putting it back.
