TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF NEWS) – Independence Day is coming up this Thursday and many will be celebrating with food, drinks, and fireworks. But as you make the preparations for the festivities, it’s important to keep safety in mind.
Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas says, “In 2017, there were 1,024 people killed in motor vehicle crashes where a driver was under the influence of alcohol.”
So, AAA Texas is offering the public free tow and rides for drivers to get home safely. This free service called, “Tipsy Tow,” will be available from 6:00 PM on July 4th through 6:00 AM on July 5th. The first ten miles are free. Beyond that, there will be a charge by the tow truck contractor.
They have some restrictions though. It won’t apply to towing inoperable vehicles or taking you to the next drinking establishment. The service will only take the driver directly home. It does not apply to passengers.
If you need their free service on July 4th, call 1-800-AAA-HELP.
