Houston (WBAP/KLIF) – A prominent cancer center in Houston says it has ousted three scientists identified by federal authorities as probably involved in Chinese efforts to steal American research. The MD Anderson Cancer Center says it was told the National Institutes of Health could withhold funding if the Center didn’t act. The three scientists have not been publicly identified, but are all believed to be Chinese. All three of the scientists were tenured faculty members at MD Anderson. Two of them resigned to avoid being fired. The termination process is believed to be underway against the third. It is not clear what sort of research they may have been doing, but MD Anderson officials say no patient information was compromised.
