Carrollton Police Department Becomes First Texas Agency to Use High-Tech Records Management System

CARROLLTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Carrollton Police Department is the first agency in Texas to implement new technology that will cut down on administrative work and allow officers to spend more time in the streets.

“Mark 43” is a cloud-based records management system the lets officers input their reports and information into one space while giving access to other vendors.

“Which is much more streamlined, much more advanced and either integrated already or able to work with many other vendors,” said the department’s Commander Andy Horn.

In addition to helping streamline the process for officers, Horn said the system will be a major benefit to the public.

“We believe the amount of time those officers will have to spend writing reports will be reduced and that means they are in the field. They will be able to serve the public in a proactive manner and respond to things more quickly ultimately increasing our level of service,” he said.

It’s a system the company behind Mark 43 hopes will be used in more agencies across the country.

The Carrollton Police Department is the first agency to use it in Texas.

“While we get a very forward thinking partner, they also get someone who is willing to help them develop their product and then be a showcase for their product as they move forward,” said Horn.

The department joins 60 other agencies using Mark 43 in an effort to be able to fight crime efficiently and be more transparent with the communities they serve.
