SOUTHLAKE (WBAP/KLIF) – The Mayor of Southlake is reacting to the news of a second video containing racial slurs posted to social media by a Southlake Carroll ISD student.
Mayor Laura Hill said Thursday that the community continues efforts to improve a rhetoric she believes extends beyond Southlake.
“We’re going to get the people who are going to make this a socio-economic issue, but it isn’t,” Mayor Hill said. “It’s an issue for every family and every home in our country.”
The Mayor said in a social media post of her own that entitled children can come from homes with small or large incomes and that parents have a responsibility to instill in their children what’s right and what’s wrong.
“As parents we need to wake up,” said Mayor Hill. “It doesn’t matter if you make $50,000 a year or $500,000 a year, you are perfectly capable of raising an entitled child.”
City and school district official say they are moving forward to promote change.
