Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – North Texans are reacting to President Trump saying he wants to sign an executive order to change the 14th amendment, taking away birth-right citizenship to immigrants.
One man told our Scott Sidway that he’s “not supportive of the change, and that he doesn’t think most the country as a whole will not be supportive of that change.”
Another man said, “If they want to be citizens of the United States they should go through that process. Another man said, “Actually if they come in here and there immigrants, I don’t think that’s enough.”
Many experts say President Trump can’t change the Constitution with an executive order; others say the amendment was written with people who entered the country legally in mind.
House Speaker Paul Ryan echoed those who said the move would be unconstitutional.
NEW: House Speaker Paul Ryan maintained that President Trump’s claim that he could end birthright citizenship with an executive order would be unconstitutional.
