What Happened to Bois D’Arc? Fannin County Residents Question Proposed Name of New Lake

Fannin County (WBAP/KLIF) – What happened to Bois D’Arc?

That’s the question a number or Fannin County residents are asking after learning that a new lake project for the area will be called North Texas Municipal Lake.

The news prompted a number of residents to voice opposition in the area which has for decades been referred to as Bois D’Arc, Bois D’Arc Creek, Lower Bois D’Arc and the like.

Fannin County resident Rhonda Cunningham tells WBAP/KLIF they pretty much everyone assumed the new lake would bear the same name.

Learning of the new name during a ground breaking ceremony in April, by the North Texas Municipal Water District, Cunningham said lots of chatter among residents led to the formation of a Facebook group called, ‘Name Bois D’Ark.’ The page generated overwhelming support.

Supporters gathered for a meeting at the water district headquarters in Wylie last night.

A final decision on the lake name will be made next month.
