(WBAP/KLIF) – A wildfire continues to burn in Palo Pinto County.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the blaze has burned close to 5,000 acres and crews remain on scene.

“We have a lot of resources from the U.S. Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife and then a great showing from local agencies,” said Texas A&M Forest Service Public Information Officer, Erin O’Connor.

It’s unclear how long it will take to completely contain the fire. It’s believed the blaze was ignited by a lightning strike in very dry conditions.

“We’re not getting the moisture we need in North Texas,” said O’Connor. “We also have a lot of fuel buildups. And then with temperatures being so hot and are humidity being so low it makes for conditions that a conducive for fire growth and fire ignition.”

Authorities are asking Texans to heed all warnings from emergency management officials and to be aware of the dry conditions.
