GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF News) – An hours-long standoff between Garland police and an armed man who barricaded himself inside a home Wednesday morning has ended peacefully.
Police were called to the shooting around 4:50 a.m. after a couple got into a fight that quickly spiraled out of control.
Officer Alberto Irazarry said 50-year-old Ignacio Valdez Estrada allegedly pulled the gun and opened fire at his girlfriend’s car several times as she drove away.
A bullet hit 23-year-old Ana L. Jaimes’ car but she escaped uninjured.
SWAT teams surrounded the home and blocked off a portion of the neighborhood near 5th and Joyce Street.
Police sent a robot near the perimeter of the home to try and make contact with Estrada.
Irazarry said after officers managed to get into the home, Estrada was found hiding in the attic and was arrested.
Estrada has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
