Dallas Native and Well-Known Character Burton Gilliam Named St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas native and well known character actor has been named Grand Marshal in this weekend’s 39th Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Dallas.

Burton Gilliam of “Blazing Saddles” fame said he’s honored at the announcement.

“I am real proud to lend my name to it and let this thing see where it grows to. Because it’s still got a lot more growing to do,” he said.

The veteran actor said the honor came as an unexpected surprise.

“It just makes me feel good to know that someone thinks that I might have something to offer back to the city of Dallas. It’s a good feeling,” he said.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning on Greenville Avenue at Blackwell.

The proceeds benefit the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association’s Scholarship Fund.

The organization has awarded more than $115,000 to Dallas ISD students.
