And, observers say Interim Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown is on track to becoming the county’s first African American female sheriff, after a decisive primary win last night. Brown won the Democratic nod outright, taking 60 percent of the vote over Constable Roy Williams.
Brown was appointed to the job by the Dallas County Commissioners after Lupe Valdez stepped down in December to run for governor.
“I’m humbled,” Brown said. “I’m just blown away by the support of the citizens of Dallas County — I feel like they have given me the go-ahead and solidified what the commissioners did in appointing me.”
On the Republican side, Deputy Aaron Meek won 68 percent of the vote; meaning both candidates avoided a May runoff.
Congratulations to Marian Brown on her historic win to become the Democratic nominee and on her way to becoming the first African American Sheriff elected in Dallas County. https://t.co/J5xUgfOiQ2 pic.twitter.com/7D8042aajg
