Update at 6:30pm:

Atmos Energy has opened two information centers as thousands remain without gas for the next three weeks. Bachman Recreation Center on Bachman Drive and Walnut Hill Recreation Center on Midway Road will serve as information centers. Both will operate between 7:00am to 11:00pm Friday and Saturday and then 7:00am to 8:00pm Sunday.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says he is in constant contact with Atmos leadership.

“I have been assured they are working as quickly as they can to accommodate both those residents who wish to stay in their homes and those that want to stay in a hotel,” Rawlings said during a Thursday evening news briefing. “They have assured us that they will pay for whatever it takes to do right by their customers during this challenging time.”

Original story:

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Atmos Energy will initiate a planned shutdown for a total replacement of natural gas lines in an area near natural gas trouble spots over the past few weeks.

Gas service will be off for up to 3 weeks betwee Webb Chapel, Northwest Highway, Walnut Hill Lane and Lakemont Drive starting at noon today.

During a rare early morning press conference, Atmos officials said record rains attributed to the deterioration of their system.

The actions are being taken amid intense criticism of Atmos’ handling of recent natural gas related incidents in the days before a home explosion that killed a 12-year old girl.

The replacement of the gas lines is being done at no cost to customers; additionally, Atmos will cover financial concerns of families affected by the shutdowns.

280-hundreds homes are affected.
