National Weather Service Confirms EF 0 Tornado Touched Down in Johnson County

JOHNSON COUNTY  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF 0 tornado touched down early Tuesday morning in Johnson County near Joshua.

“It was basically a little spin up with in a larger line of storms. I believe this one had winds of estimated of up to 80 miles per hour. So, it’s a fairly weak tornado and those are very, very common,” said Jason Dunn with the National Weather Service.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department said that several homes were heavily damaged by the storms throughout the Joshua / Godley area.

Jennifer Chezum lives in the area and said her carport was destroyed.

“I just heard howling winds and debris hitting the house and woke us up. It came in as quick as it left. It was pretty scary,” she said.

Chezum said after she and her husband went outside to survey the damage, they saw a terrifying scene at their neighbor’s home.

“Across the gate we saw the house completely flipped over. We ran over to see if we could find the occupants of the house,” she said.

Damage from high winds was also reported in the DeSoto area.

There were also numerous power outages reported across the DFW Metroplex from Weatherfod to the west and McKinney to the north.

At least three people were hospitalized.
