PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – The Plano City Council voted 7-1 to censure councilman Tom Harrison in a special session Sunday over an anti-Islamic Facebook post.
Last week, Harrison shared a video that showed a student wearing a hijab with the caption, “Share If You Think Trump Should Ban Islam in American Schools.”
Harrison has apologized for the initial post, which he said wrongly implied that he was anti-Muslim.
He said his intent was to show that Christianity is not the only religion being targeted for exclusion in public schools.
Since the post, there have been calls from both community members and elected officials for Harrison to resign.
Harrison has said he will not step down.
Other questionable posts have been found on Harrison’s Facebook page.
Among them, one post said, “In the 21st Century, All Slave Owners are Muslims, Their Allies are the Democrats.”
