PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – The North Texas Tollway Authority has launched a new safety program that officials say provides a faster, more convenient way for stranded drivers to call for help along our roadways.
Drivers can now simply dial #999 (Pound 999) on their cellphones for roadside assistance. This will connect directly to NTTA’s Safety Operations Center. Roadside Safety Services crews or DPS Troopers can then be dispatched as needed.
“The idea is to have something easy to remember for drivers should they get stranded,” said NTTA Media Relations Manager, Michael Rey. “When you get to a stop, just pull out your phone and dial pound 999.”
New roadside signs and Dynamic Message Boards advise drivers of the new safety feature.
