Cities Nationwide, Including DFW, to Participate in “Drug Take Back” Weekend

CARROLLTON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – President Trump is urging Americans to be aware of a growing opioid epidemic in America.

The opioid crisis has been declared a public health emergency.

This weekend, cities across the country, including the DFW Metroplex, will be holding “Drug Take Back” events.

The City of Carrollton’s Cindy Arias said drop-off locations will be set up to properly dispose of prescription drugs with no questions asked.

“Part of it is of course you’d be allowing children to get a hold of drugs and possible using them for recreational uses and, in some cases, poisonings,” she said.

Many people have prescriptions that they’re no longer using that are still being stored in their homes. Arias said the take back is a chance to get rid of unnecessary medications.

“People can just go through their cabinets and find out if there are any medications that are expired that they’re not going to be needing anymore,” she said.

The national effort focuses on creating awareness of drug abuse. Drop off locations will be set up Saturday across the Metroplex.

The addresses to the drop off locations can be found here.
