City of Mansfield Honors Fallen First Responders with Memorial

MANSFIELD (WBAP/KLIF) – A North Texas city is honoring its fallen first responders.

Two Mansfield firefighters killed in a 1968 fire and a Mansfield Police Officer killed in a car crash in the 1980’s are being remembered on a monument erected off of Broad Street in front of City Hall. The Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department helped design the memorial which is also intended to honor current first responders.

“The dual purpose of the memorial is not just for the people who have died,” said Ann Beck with the Parks Department. “But really for everyone who is on duty. We want every Police or Firefighter who passes by to know that their city appreciates them.”

The space in front of the monument will soon have park benches for people to sit and reflect. At night the memorial will be lit in blue on the sidewall honoring Police, and red on the Firefighter side.
