Plano Police Call Mass Shooting ‘Unlike Anything the City has Seen’

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) –  The mass shooting during a Dallas Cowboys watch party at a home in Plano Sunday night was unlike anything the city had ever seen, according to Police.

“We’re one of the safest cities in the country,” said Plano Police Chief Gregory Rushin. “We’ve never had a shooting of this magnitude. We’ve never seen this many victims before. It’s just a terrible event.”

Police said the suspect knew the people hosting the party and believe the shooting to be isolated. The suspect was heavily armed.

“There were multiple firearms of different types,” Chief Rushin said.

The suspect shot and killed seven people before being shot dead by Police. One person died at a hospital. Nine people, in all, were killed. The Officer who shot the suspect is being praised for his bravery.

“When something like this occurs you can’t wait because seconds matter,” Chief Rushin said. “This Officer went directly into fire and stop the shooters ability to continue to kill people.”

One other person was taken to the hospital for injuries.

The Texas Rangers are conducting and investigation into the shooting. The Officer who killed the suspect has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, as department policy requires.
