DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The shortage of school bus drivers in Dallas County is on the mend.
Earlier this summer, the county was about 200 drivers short of its goal. But as of Wednesday, that number has dropped to less than 100.
“It’s very good, because that’s across all of our districts,” Giddens said of the diminishing shortage. “With Dallas ISD, we are less than 50 [away from the goal].”
Giddens says Dallas County Schools is both hosting and attending job fairs throughout the county to recruit drivers. Until they completely reach their goal, she said they’re asking administrators with the proper training to fill in and drive buses.
But they are needing less and less of that as time goes on, according to Giddens.
“We are doing everything that we can to ensure [kids] are getting to school on time and safely,” said Leigh Giddens with Dallas County Schools. “That’s our number one priority.”
