Veterans, Volunteers Stand to Honor Families of Fallen Soldiers

Stand to Honor is a new initiative dedicated to helping the organization ‘Folds of Honor’ raise $1,000,000 for children of fallen or disabled service men and women. This week, veterans and volunteers are standing at Victory Plaza in Dallas to help the cause.

Saturday, people began standing in 13 minute increments, representing the 13 folds of an American flag. The rotation of individuals standing will continue day and night until the money is raised in full. The money raised will directly fund 200 educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen soldiers. Mark Robinson and Gus Santos, Founders of Milestone Electric & Air, made a commitment to help raise the money for the children who will benefit.

“Their parents paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country,” said Santos. “They applied for scholarships and the money wasn’t there. So when we find out about it we began to organize.”

Santos said people from all over North Texas have made donations on site and at Standtohonor.org.

“Less than 1% of our country suits up to defend our freedoms in the United States,” said Major Dan Rooney, Founder and CEO Folds of Honor. “Stand To Honor is a great way for the other 99% to show their support in defense of our freedoms.”

The public is encouraged to register a time slot to stand.
