Mansfield (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas Stars and City of Mansfield have broken ground on a Dr. Pepper Star Center at Highway 287 and Broad Street. Last year, the Mansfield City Council approved an agreement with Dallas Stars Enterprises to build the $15 million project and lease it to the Stars.
The 80,000 square foot center will include two ice rinks.
“Having this locally just helps continue to further the culture and tradition of ice sports here in Texas,” says the Stars’ chief operating officer, Jason Farris. “The first rinks were built here in the 1920s.”
The Stars will lease the center and pay $18 million in rent over the next 30 years. The Dr. Pepper Star Center in Mansfield will be near a mixed use development at the interchange. Last year, Fieldhouse USA opened along Highway 287.
“This corner here is really going to be a destination for Mansfield,” says Mayor David Cook.
Cook says Fieldhouse USA is expected to draw a million people each year.
The Dr. Pepper Star Center in Mansfield will be the Stars’ eighth in North Texas. The facility should open this Fall.
